Wow, what a bunch of ignorant answers. I thought we were supposed to help people here? Hey Karim, Email me at gi_joe21x@yahoo.com I've been teaching here in China for a bit, maybe I can help.

For starters, relationships (at first) revolve around meals with people. Hope your ready to eat, and perferrably drink. The Chinese use the word "Guan xi" which is basically connections. You do favours for someone, they will do favours for you. Business, and freindship, revolves around who you know. Quite different from the west.

For someone who is going to TEACH English I am surprised you ask this question at all.

How do YOU... make friends in your country? Chinese are people too... just do the same thing as you would anywhere else.

(Try this ... it just might work.... talk to them)

For being French in China, I can tell you that you should not have problems to make friends there. Usually they will come to you and after a few exchanged words they will consider you as your good friends. They will ask you for your handphone number, MSN, QQ number ( it is their MSN program ), where you live...

You're going to be an English teacher ... teacher? How did you become a teacher of anything with no interpersonal skills?
