Prescription Naproxen & if that doesn't work, ask for Celebrex. Different NSAIDs work differently for different people. the Biofreeze suggestion is also a good one. I get mine from the same place I get my TENS unit supplies.
Good luck

When you have sciatica, or pain originating in the back and shooting down the main nerve in one or both legs, the pain is caused by the muscles being held in tension trying to isolate the injured area of your spine. That is why heat temporarily relieves the pain because it relaxes the muscles and brings blood flow to the area.

The best pain reliever\anti-inflammatory I have ever found for sciatica including morphine is the over-the-counter pain reliever Aleve or naproxen sodium.

Sciatica is usually caused by a pinched nerve and can happen to any one.

It is best to try the simplest medication first. Paracetamol is an excellent anti-inflamatory as is neurophen.

Otherwise you can get a prescription for things like naprosyn or celebrex.

the 2 best over the counter anti inflammatory medications are Motrin and Naproxin. Naproxin is better than Motrin but it is harder on the stomach. With both of these do not take on an empty stomach.

aspirin if you're not allergic

If you use over the counter medications, talk to your doctor so that you can be monitored for problems. In addition, periodically re-evaluate whether you still need them. Exercise, stretching, massage and other nondrug treatments can often provide the same benefits without side effects.

I'm not sure about anti-inflammatory meds but you might want to try a remedy called "Tiger Balm" which can be found in your local pharmacy.

I swear it works!

I went from "Celebrex" to "Lyrica" and "Lodine" along with "Vicodin" for the pain. No one is better then the other but, ? I can't win.
