My boyfriend has been experiencing a strange tingling on the out side of his left foot, on the edge (Not the ball nor the top of the foot) between his pinky toe and the side of the heel. He has had severe back problems with bulged discs at L3-L4 and L4-L5. He has had a previous surgery on L4-L5. It's keeping him awake at night! We have been using Anbesol which seems to work but he needs to reapply it throughout the night. Any ideas?
Thanks everyone!

Definitely sounds like nerve involvement. I, too, have back problems (broken L1, L2 & L4). I use a supplement called Liquid Health - Glucosamine for pain. Works fairly well. I also have a gel called BioFreeze that works well, too.
Try some ibuprofen (motrin) with food & see if that helps. Maybe a chiropractor?

Been there; I can relate!
L2 - L3 and L4 - L5.

The swelling of the discs puts pressure on the sciatic nerve, which is the main nerve going down the left leg. This causes pain in my hip, behind my knee and at the bottom of the heel of my foot. I also get that tingley feeling from my knee down, but mostly in my foot. Kinda feels like my leg's asleep. For the past two years, I've lost 80% muscle control of my left leg.

My Orthopedist tells me that (shy of surgery) the only thing I can do for the pain is to take anti-inflamatory medication. Ibuprofen or Naproxin (Motrin or Aleve). These will take down some of the swelling that is pinching the nerve and eases the pain a bit.

Personal advice from me: try not to favor either foot during the pain. In my case this led to some serious atrophy in my left calf.

Sounds like a pinched nerve or possible nerve damage..What about getting a massage or seeing a DR. or Chiropractor..

it could be that your foot fell asleep. have you been sitting on your foot? you could have been pinching a nerve that makes a tingling sensation, it's your body telling you not to sit on your foot anymore.

He shouldn't have to ask if he's had problems before. He should now that people like us are prone to strange nerve antics that no one else gets. I've learned to live with it. I take "Lodine" "Lyrica""Vicodin" I was on Celebrex
