They attack people in every category, you can go ask a music question and an atheist will give you a hard time for asking. It's in their nature I guess.

You need to lighten up. This forum is going to have a wide range of opinions. YOU need to be open minded and not let these things bother you. I agree with you that more tolerance would be great, but things are somewhat polarized right now. When you have unqualified people getting jobs for the administration in Iraq partly based on religious beliefs you can get a little upset. Especially considering what a terrible job they have done. I know that seems a bit off topic, but I think there is some relevance. Congress trying to impose a law into the private issue relating to the Terry Shiavo case was religion in government getting carried away with rejecting solid science.
Many atheists fall into the "I'm not going to believe until proven otherwise" category. Others feel there is enough evidence to reject the existence of a god outright. That is a pretty fine line when you really compare them. I think the latter are sometimes people who have had a bad experience with religion. I say let them vent. It might be good therapy.

This is the first time I heard the term fundamentalist athiest. It sounds like an oxymoron to me. Apparently you are not an atheist, and if you are a Christian I believe this would be a sin. No one can really know the truth. I have explored many different religions & am now an agnostic. Everyone thinks their belief is the absolute truth. They can't all be right.

You are lying about being an Atheist. If you were one, you'd know that Atheists ARE open minded. You'd know It was your inherent open mindedness that enabled you to study all the options that led to your conclusions in the first place. Common sense dictates that you did not turn your back on a shot at immortality until the preponderance of evidence showed the concept of theism to be an absurdity. Christians are not open to serious consideration of other options. To put them on an equal footing by saying neither is 100% sure, is preposterous. They are not on an equal footing. Atheists are about education and considering all options, christians are about blind acceptance of something that sounds appealing and ignorance of the alternatives. Atheists express themselves passionately because they ARE coming from a position of superiority over christians who are coming from a position of ignorance.

I accept the truth! totally, if it can be presented in the correct and perfect format
yahoo religion question and answers is a basic religion forum and there is where all religions should converge.
I dont claim to KNOW 100% what the truth is, but!
i do know that God exists because i have both seen an angel in my room and 3 visions of jesus christ.
because these visions exist i have No understanding except that there is aGod in heaven. everything else is debateable to me.
those that disagree with truth are not basically taught the truth. and those that are taught lies and false beliefs are victims of false prophets who are blind and never really knew the truth. but this lack of truth is called TRUTH and people are taught to believe in something that is not the truth therefore they call it Truth and condemn everyone else who disagrees.
this process of indoctrination is the corruption of all religion throughout all centuries since Adam was cast out of Eden. ever since mankind chose to follow satan rather than believe Adam who Knew who God and the saviour was.

Why do you not understand what an atheist is? ATHEIST - someone who does not have self assurance in a God – any God – not merely the Christian one. yet that doesn't recommend they don't carry sturdy moral or non secular beliefs! they could stick with any faith that doesn't have a god and there are a good number of those! Like BUDDHISM – non secular practise from Buddha and his followers that by destroying greed, hatred and fantasy (the reason of all suffering) guy can attain ideal enlightenment! And ignore the stupid claims for Christian numbers and verify out reality! The church homes own figures practice really 28% who declare to be Christian ever attend church in a year. certainly if 28% ever tried to attend church on a similar day, even operating shifts, there is merely not sufficient church homes! yet count number the bars - in a good number of places there is extra room contained in the bars than the church homes! count number each of the seats in each church in a city and evaluate that to the inhabitants and it truly is amazingly not likely to attain even 5%! it truly is real good by the Bible belt and in Salt Lake city! bypass on have the braveness to count number the seats! Then try attending a service in each church and note how a lot of those seats are empty!

Hahahahaha fundamentalist Atheists. It may appear to be so, but look around, in the real world. Are there any fundamentalist Atheists? maybe a very very small number. In the real world there are people that would kill you just for being an Atheist, have you ever heard the opposite to be true in this day

I find it almost comical that most of the answers to the question you ask are not really answers but are for the most part sarcastic commantary of the type you are questioning why they exsist.
As a Christian, I often observe and ask simmilar questions and the best answer I can deduce is that it is human nature to be defensive about things we a) don't agree with, b) don't understand, c) are passionate about.
I do find it difficult to accept though, for Christians especially, that people who call themselves Christians can be so intolorant and disparaging toward others, it is an oximoron as it counters what they aspouse to believe in.
I can't say for athiests what tenents guide their behavior towards others but for believers, it is pretty clear so I chalk it up to human nature and the failings of individuals to overcome those base instincts.
Christian or atheist, the base principals of pyschology as we understand them act upon all of us, as we achieve our base needs we are able to then achieve higher orders of intelect. There are physical needs like food water and shelter, and there are emotianal needs like security, belonging and careing or nurturing.
It seems that oft times in our developed societies we achieve physical needs more readily than emotional needs. Until we grow beyond our own insecurities emotianally it will be difficult to truely and objectively pursue a higher order of intelect that is tolorance and acceptance of differences.

There is no such thing as a fundamentalist atheist. This label is just an attempt to define atheism as a religion. There is no fundamental atheist doctorine.
Ignorance and intolerance are both beliefs that should be challenged.

its because atheists live in fear..one day you will die..and with no belief in the afterlife all you have to look forward to is maggots crawling all over you and devouring your flesh, worms crawling in your mouth as you lie there and rot.so out of that fear you lash out at what your small mind cannot understand.christians celebrate life and death for death is just a passing onto the next level of existence and a new freedom from worldly restraints.we try to help you and show you the light but you cant see with your eyes and mind closed.so the older and sicker you get ,the more you lash out because you are scared..i pity the atheists and pray for them.its not a nice way to go through life.

I find it concerning too. Perhaps the rise in fundementalism amongst american christians has created a backlash against christians in general. I find the whole thing sad. Atheist like myself should be open minded. If not, then we become just as bad as the extremists in the religious world.
