i have a kitten, about 3 months old, who was a feral we rescued at about 7 weeks. I spent a lot of time taming him and now I almost worry about him liking me too much. He is always in the same room as me, he follows me around the house and gets on my lap as soon as I sit down. He's basically stalking me in my own house.

What really worries me is that he will sit in my lap and squeak at me like crazy. i thought squeaking meant that a kitten was hungry. But his food bowl is out all the time and always has food in it. We always put it in the same place. But he does not go there on his own, he squeaks at me until I set him down in front of his food bowl. When we went out for Christmas, he was home alone for almost ten hours, and he did not touch the huge pile of food I left him. But when I got home, he started squeaking like crazy! I dumped out the old food and gave him new and then he ate it so fast he almost choked!

Why won't he eat? Is it bad he never leaves me?

he has been to the vet, has had two rounds of shots, will be fixed next month when he gets his last shots. he can see and hear fine, I think, based on his playing - he is very playful, especially with toys that I toss or hold for him. His favority toy is my fuzzy bathrobe belt, I think b/c I hold it and it doesn't roll away from me like other toys. He does not play much on his own, mostly when I help by showing him the toy and tossing it toward him. He also loses interest if I leave while he is playing.

He's just a kitten and needs security right now and the best thing you can do is just give him as much love and affection as possible also play with hime for at least one half an hour a day. And just keep giving hime directions to his food, he'll change when he feels more secure. You don't know what he went through before you got him and I think it's really something that a feral kitten has taken to you like that. He just needs security right now and socialization is really important at this age. So far your doing every thing right just keep it up and I'm sure he'll settle down it's takes alot of patience to raise a cat and a feral one is even harder. You sound like a real cat lover to me, good for you.

he does sound a bit too attached is there someone else in your family who could give him attention and distract him from you occasionally.
is it possibly something else is putting him off feeding when you aren't there perhaps he finds the floor hard or is it perhaps a long way from his sleeping area. perhaps you should confine him in the same room as his food and litter tray when you go out and not leave quiet so much food for him as you said it was a big pile.
it would also be a good idea to practice leaving him alone going out for a few hours so he can get used to you not being around.
but do bear in mind that kittens generally demand and need more personal attention than adult cats

If he's on your lap, and you toss food on the floor
can he find it? He might have some other problems
going on. Has he seen a Vet ? It's time.
