1. Exercise Regular exercise helps keep your whole body in shape. It builds your immune system and helps eliminate toxins from the body. It's a great start to fighting acne.
2. Diet You need to eat at least 5 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables each day. Fresh fruit and vegetables are full of nutrients that your body needs. They boost the immune system and are good antioxidants. They can help in the removal of acne. Try to avoid refined sugars and fatty foods which are not good for you or your skin. You also need to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to flush your system of toxins.
3. Cosmetics Choose cosmetics that are water-based and hypoallergenic. Avoid oil-free products, coal tar derivatives, and heavy creams. Make sure you wash your skin thoroughly every night to remove makeup residue.
4. Hormones Hormones can play a role in acne flare ups and they can be used to reduce outbreaks. Your doctor may decide to use hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to eliminate or reduce your acne outbreaks.
5. Clean Skin You need to avoid harshly scrubbing your face, but you also need to thoroughly clean your skin twice a day--once in the morning and once in the evening. Use a mild facial cleaning product every night. Once or twice a week you should also use an exfoliator to gently remove damaged skin and unplug pores. After cleaning, pat skin dry--don't rub. Buy a 2.5-5% Benzoyl Peroxide solution (cream or gel-based) and apply a thin layer to the affected areas. When your skin is dry to touch, apply an oil-free moisturizer liberally to your face.
6. Shaving A daily shave is actually a great exfoliating treatment the removes dead skin; however, you should never shave an area that is infected or inflamed. Always use a shaving cream if your skin is sensitive.
7. Stress Too much stress can be a contributing factor for acne, so try to relax and unwind. Emotions trigger chemical reactions in the body, which can cause an outbreak.

Go to a good dermatologist. they will be able to recognize the type of acne you have and the best way to treat it.
To the person that said toothpaste, that's an old wives tale. If you just have a pimple and have no over the counter medication, the best thing is grinding up an aspirin, not Tylenol or Nuprin. Aspirin contains the same active ingredient as Clearasil.

I have an acne treatment that has won me the best answer better then fifteen times. Often, the person who voted it the best answer was amazed at how well it worked, even those who had severe cases of acne. I'll copy and paste it below.

Use a hot compress on it, and then use cool water to close the pores. Do the process over and over again, about five or six times. Use soap to wash the area, and then treat it with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. It should be gone within five to six hours.

Here are some of the previous comments I got from those who voted it as the best answer,

Been to the dermatologist. Recommendation was for a product called "Purpose" and it can be purchased in your local Walmart. I prefer the liquid over the bar soap though. Personal preference! I have never been able to use soap or any type of lotion on my face. Guess what! I use both now made by the same company.

wash your face with medicatd cleanser. then put toner, acne medication, and if you have dry skin, face cream. using this syetem acne should clear up in about 12 weeks but for some people this step doesn't ork for them so then go to dermatologist where he/she can prescribe stronger acne medications that get rid of acne faster. good luck

Find a good cleanser and stick with it for a while. Wash your face twice a day. If that doesn't help go see a dermatologist.

Try seeing a dermatologist who would prescribe the right product. Make sure you use face masks once a week.

If its bad and you start scarring, go and see a dermatologist, you will most likely get accutane, that stuff worked a miracle for me
