I book online because its the easiest and quickest, and I seem to get the best price. Try to book as Early as possible.
When I book tickets I generally try to check them all to see what I can get the cheapest, like cheaptickets.com or expedia.com; Travelocity.com; orbitz.com however unless you're booking way in advance it seems that most of the prices don't vary too much, make sure to get tickets over email becuase they charge a lot of money for physical tickets and its really not necessary.
If you want more website options you can always google; "airline tickets" and you'll be given a lot of options... good luck on your flight!
P.S. Layovers greatly reduce the price of your tickets.

We have used a travel agency for many years.
We clarify what we want and the cheapest fares, rental car and hotel prices. And they always beat what we find on the Internet.
It is my understanding that Travel Agents are paid by the companies they book seats for, not the customer.
Give it a try.
