if you have coaxial output on the dish box, run video out from the dish box to antenna in on the vcr. run a coaxial cable from antenna out (or "to tv") from the vcr to antenna in on the tv. now you will need to have the vcr on channel 3 or 4 depending on your vcr. the way you would record the dish onto your vcr is you would put the dish on what channel you want to record, push record on the vcr if you are currently watching what you are recording. if you are going to record later, make sure you have the channel set on the dish that you want to record. set the vcr for channel 3 or 4 for the time you want to record. just try this out before you actually need to record the show, just to make sure that it is set up right.

A dual tuner (like Dish's 322, 522, or 625) is required to perform this function. You could also use two separate tuners to do it, however, you would have to pay the $5 extra each month that Dish charges for another tuner. If you had a dual tuner in that room, and you plugged it into a working phone jack, dish will waive the $5 charge each month for the dual capability of the tuner. That would allow you to record one thing on your vcr, while watching something different on your television. It will also give you the capability to perform picture and picture (watch two different things on one tv at the same time) if your TV is capable of doing that. p.s. you don't need any splitters either. Satellites don't use splitters the way that land based cable operations do.

All depends on the type of dish receiver you have. If you have something higher than a single receiver ie ( 301) which would only allow you to record what is on channel 3 or 4 or aux (which ever your watching channel is) this type of recv'r only has 1 tuner so in essence, your tv is now just a tuner. If you have a 322 which is two tuner machine, you could programming the 2nd tuner to tune to say ch 100 to record charlie chat when it comes on. or ch 110 the food network. Single tuners are only good if you want too record what you are watching and not channel surfing. rem. to have your vcr set to the channel that the tv is set to
