There are 2 kids. 1 boy 8, 1 girl 6. I used to be best friends with the Mom about 10 yrs ago and she has already talked badly about me to the kids. Any advice would be great.

First off, I would only meet them if you are really serious about your boyfriend. If you aren't sure about him and you get close to the kids and then leave, that will be really hard on the kids. Secondly, I would do something like movies, skating, bowling, trip to the park, hockey game etc. So a couple hours should be good. Keep it light hearted and don't expect too much and don't be false towards the kids, they pick up on that stuff. And whatever you do, don't talk poorly about the ex wife.

Try and not let anything they say that could be hurtful (because of things they've been told) show on your face or in your actions. Try to be pleasant and kind to them. Kids are resilient and they will come around.

Just be your self, don't say anything against their mother and as the kids get to know you they will find out that your nothing like their mother said. good luck!
