i have some mysterious joint pains for the last 4 years. they often affect my meta tarsals (foot bones), neck , and wrist bones. in addition , my knees and other joints can be involved. i have a lot of fatigue with these. the joints do not swell though. my blood tests are negative, except that once my CRP was high at 27. The rheumatologist cannot diagnose it and i am not on any treatment. meanwhile i am suffering a lot. i am due to meet my rheumatologist next week and am wondering if there is something called a steroid trial that i can request or something like that.

anti inflamatories don't provide much relief. my pains are either too mild to need them , or too severe and they don't help much.

A trial of steroids would sound like a reasonable option, however...... you don't have synovitis (or swelling), I don't know about other rheumatological markers (ANA...etc). The problem with a trial of steroids is that it makes almost ANYONE feel better. You can give a couple of days of steroids to someone with a cold and they feel great!. The psychological "side effects" of steroids make people feel great (for a little while) and it can make determining their "actual effect" quite difficult as a trial. Ask your doctor see what she or he thinks...

Try to find a combination supplement at a good health food store. One that has glucosamine to help rebuild cartlidge, MSM, tumeric(curcumin) and bromelain are good anti-inflamitories,devils claw or boswellia are affective pain killers. Two i know by name are Nutri-Flex by Naka and Joint Start by NutriStart. A different way to go is with Serrapeptase. All kinds of pain have been releived with this product. Enerex sells the best one i beleive. Use the 60,000 IU and take 6 a day until you get releif. Usually within a week or two. Take on an empty stomach. Very important. Then you can reduce your dosage to 2-3 a day for maintenance. Keep in mind that if it is arthritis you have then the Serrapeptase is keeping down the inflamation and pain but not rebuilding the cartlidge so Glucosamine is recommended along with it. Serrapeptase is wonderful for all kinds of pain and actually removes all "dead" tissue from the body, so it can be used to clean arteries, lower cholesterol and reduce swelling. It is prescription only in most European countries but available over the counter in Canada and the US. It is used mainly by doctors in Europe to treat heart patients and numerous studies have been done on it. There is also no concern with any interactions when using prescriptions. I hope this helps. By the way, i have managed a vitamin store for 8 years now and keep up with the latest in supplements. Good luck.

You can ask for a steroid trial - it doesn't do any harm to ask but have you been tried on an anti-inflamatory such as voltarol?
