Has anyone painted their black hinges to make them chrome? Do I have to sand the black paint off? I don't know anything about painting. What kind of paint should I use? Should I just buy new stainless steel hinges? Please help!

just order the chrome ones from a reputable aftermarket dealer and bolt them on. Or remove yours and take them to a chrome shop that offers chroming but would be cheaper to just order new chrome ones. Chrome ones aren't that expensive and if one breaks you still have the original ones to fall back on..

Never try to renew or refurbish steel hinges. The possible rust damage or weakening doesn't make it worth it. Replace them with either stainless steel (chrome, matte, or painted) or new steel (powder coated or primed for painting).

If you insist in keeping your old hinges, remove them and soak them in the harshest paint remover you can find for 24 hours. After ALL the paint and rust is off and you can flex the hinge freely, Paint the hinge with a good anti rust paint like Rust Check or POR 15. Follow all directions on the can.

It's much easier to buy them new from a good source. Most manufacturers guarantee their products one way or another. Check out Quadratec.com for these items.
