I have a male applehead and a female deerface chihuahua. They mated and had three puppies 17 weeks ago, we are keeping. I was just curious about something. I baby is an applehead, 1 is a deerface, 1 does is not quite an applehead and not quite a deerface. Is it possible that he's half and half? No sarcastic answers please! Thanks and Happy New Year!

anything is possible because you can mix a long haired with a short hair and get all long coats, all short coats or a mix of both and i would think that the same could be said for the heads . actually the correct term is deer -head and apple head. they are just below breed standards that is why they call them deer -heads I dont care cause i m not showing my deer head . he is one adorable little guy and the breeder sold me a wonderfully healthy puppy and one that has a great personality and not a mean bone in his body . i love him with all my heart. good luck and I hope I helped you.

First of all, these puppies are chihuahuas. There are multiple types of chihuahuas, and two head types are appledomed and the deerface. The correct head is the appledomed head, though it should not be exaggerated.

The puppy that you describe as "half-and-half" is just a matter of having a different head. He could have more dome, but not the correct angle at the stop, and thus more muzzle (longer) or he could have a correct stop just not as much head or a more pointy muzzle. But again, this is just a matter of breed type and nothing else.

Secondly, you should get all five of them spayed/netured. If you are not familiar with the standard AND are not showing, than you should not be breeding. Breeding should only be done for the improvement of the breed, and not because you have two chihuahuas and want a litter of puppies. Chihuahuas can be very difficult to whelp and you could have lucked out. Anyone whose been involved in dogs long enough will tell you that there can be many complications, including fatal one's, irregardless of the breed but certain breeds because of size can be more prone.

I own a 1 yr old Chihuahua, his mother was an apple head and his dad was a deer face. He's a great dog but I can't say he looks exactly like either one , but he's very cute! I just say he's a chihuahua

Fact: there is one breed standard, and this is it: http://www.akc.org/breeds/chihuahua/index.cfm

I am not being sarcastic, just stating the truth.

"SARCASTIC"???
How about the plain TRUTH??
It's a POS "junk-pup"like the dam & sire & littermates!!!
There's NO SUCH THING as "deerhead" OR "applehead"! There's JUST *CORRECT* & CRAP!

That's just CROOK-SPEAK for "Sell that CRAP to the moron! HE never read the BREED STANDARD & wouldn't know CRAP if he STEPPED IN IT!"
