It doesn't seem to happen to me with any other food. I like cheese and cornflakes just as much but don't feel compelled to eat them if they're mentioned.
Why does only chocolate have this effect? Even the same colour purple as a Cadbury's wrapper will set my taste buds off.

Ooooflip i know what you mean....your making me hunger for some chocolate already!! mmmm....I think it's because of the happy hormone in chocolate and the high sugar content keeps you addicted and you crave to eat this more because it is comforting, making you feel good...in my opinion anyway!

Haha, just read your comment Vegetable Soup - I just had those chocolate coins then a wedge of cheese to wash them down.

my husband is a choc a holic he is at this moment in time eating a cadbury crunchy , large bar of chocolate all to himself

I think it has something to do with endorphins, it either contains them or stimulates the release of them.

see, i'm that way with cheese....just the word sends a shiver of delight down my spine and gets my toes tingling...
i hear it calling my name, "eat me eat me" when i walk by the fridge...i'm powerless in its presence.
damn, gotta go get some now, i've worked myself into a frenzy.

if i have a bar in the house its OK it can stay there for weeks but if i have run out i crave it so much, its an addiction.
