Because atheists claim this short life is all they will ever have, you would think they would have a hell-of-a-lot of living to do. So it is astonishing that so many of them, waste so much of their very valuable time, preaching to other people that this short life is all there is.
It seems there are actually more atheists on Yahoo religion, than religious people.
Where does it say in the atheist’s ‘live-for-the-moment’ handbook, “go thou and teach all nations?” We can only conclude that, in trying to convince others, they are actually trying to convince themselves.

There are more atheists on yahoo for the simple reason that yahoo is a reflection of society and there are more atheists in society than there are deluded religious types.
We are now in the 21st century. It is time to see the light and stop believing in all that superstitious garbage.
Do yourself a favour and read Richard Dawkin's excellent book The God Delusion. It is to the 21st century what the bible was to the dark ages.
However, be warned it may be a bit too intellectual for you simple religious folk!

I don't know what handbook you're talking about, but I don't need a handbook to tell me how to think, or how to live. It's interesting how judgemental and presumptuous your questions are...perhaps they reflect your own beliefs.
"We can only conclude that, in trying to convince others, they are actually trying to convince themselves."
You keep telling yourself that. Self-delusion is the province of the theist, not the atheist.

I'm an atheist and have a great life.
Well paid job, loving girlfriend, no hassles with having to lead my life due to some fictional account of a bearded blokes views on how I should live

I am an atheist and i have a life, thank you very much. It seems to me from your comments that you would like to have this Q & A site to yourself so that you and your believer cohorts can proselytize to your hearts' content, without being bothered by troublesome atheists questioning your bizarre, illogical beliefs. Good luck with your wish.

well i took the liberty of surfing through the old testament
and was shocked by what i read it seems the people we worship and learn from are the type of people that we know throw in jail !
one line read something like -if he shall try to draw you from god
you must strike him to death blah blah blah, you know the vibe
so i asked my uncle who teaches religious education and he confirmed that that most major religions promote belief in their god
over the the lives of others and that the bible is far from the civilized bubble we put it in today he said if Christians and Muslims
were to follow their holy book without scrutiny
they simply would not be able to socialize or function in a secular
nation
and it made me think
if i were to truly believe that there was a book sent from the divine creator i wouldn't care about the words of man nor would i allow others to commit religious atrocities against my belief system
"Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored."
The Christian god makes man human, then burns him when he acts like one.

It sounds like it's you doing the preaching. The convincing part you mention goes both ways. But your generalizing is actually a quality that both atheists and christians seem to embrace.

After hundreds of years of persecution by the proponents of the Santa-like infantile belief systems, we are fighting back against these retarded archaic baseless philosophies with science and rational thought. Sorry if you don't like that, it's a hard life. Why don't you look up the 'scientific method' and then come back and tell us all why you think faith is a more reliable means of acquiring knowledge.

At least our lives don't involve things like waking up early on sundays. And anyway we are only trying to convince other people to save them from a horrible and controlled life.

Yes, you would THINK that since they believe this is all they have, that they would want to be "living it up" doing some wonderfully adventuresome thing, instead of spending all their time here on Y&A, of all places, trying to convince us we've got it all wrong by believing in the Saviour!

there isn't an atheist handbook, it just means no belief.
Atheists tend to be people and as you know, people come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, just like those with beliefs.
I repect everyones rigt to believe or not to believer in a god or gods. It would futile to think otherwise.
