Try finalizing the disk with nero. It sounds like the disk is still on a AVI file or a IFO file. Try converting the file into a DV-AVI file.

Your friends are probably putting the downloaded file through a program that converts avi and iso files into files which are readable by most dvd players. If you are willing to invest a bit of money you can buy one yourself.... or beg a friend to burn it for you.

Some dvd players, especially older ones, can not play MP3,MP4, or Wav files. Also some will not accept a dvd-r. They may only play CDs. Look at you owners manual and check the specific formats available for your player.

Maybe the DVD player is not compatible with your DVD!
