I use clear chicken broth, sweat butter, flour, salt and pepper and then when it is cooking down I add some bourbon....it give the gravy a great flavor. You can also put in other boozes but this one is delicious; the alcohol cooks off and the flavor is mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

1 tablespoon butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth

Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat; add flour, poultry seasoning, salt, and black pepper, stirring with a whisk. Gradually add broth, stirring until blended. Cook 2 minutes or until thick, stirring constantly

I use equal parts butter and flour. (1 tbsp of flour and 1 of butter for each cup of liquid you plan to use.)

Just put those over medium heat and keep stirring until it's brown.

Then pour in your liquid, beef broth, chicken broth, milk, turkey drippings, whatever will go with your meal, and stir it like mad with a whisk, so you don't have lumps. Add salt, pepper, herbs, etc. and you have gravy!

For beef-type gravies, don't forget a good splash of Worcestershire sauce.

I think you've pretty well covered it. The only options I can think of are different spices, or flour instead of cornstarch, or meat fat instead of bouillon cubes.

Simple. Use a can of cream of mushroom soup for gravy, you'll be glad you did.

Try using cream of mushroom soup for gravy. Don't put any water in it, just open and heat,,, a few pan drippings added to it are great also..
