Start small. Don't set too high of a goal or you will quit. Tell yourself that you can go one hour without eating the handful of chips and stuff like that. Buy more fruits and veggie. Don't buy them already sliced up...it is more expensive that way. Besides every movement you do is calories lost...so think of slicing the watermelon or cantalope as exercise. And it is a great and heathly snack!
Do little things around the house. While waiting for water to boil to leg lifts or see how many sit ups you can do. Write that down. Then the next time you boil water you can see if you can beat your record. While waiting for the computer to boot up do squats. Or if watching a t.v show during the commercials you can do sit-ups or squats or any other movement. Remember that movement=loss of calories. Drink all day long. It will help make you feel fuller. And when you do grab a bite to eat ask yourself why. Are you bord? sad? depressed? happy? When you think about how you are feeling then think about what you want to accomplish you may turn away from the kitchen and go do something else. Take up journal writing or hop online and surf. If you are bored then do laps around your yard or do more housework. You can even turn on your favorite music and dance with your kids. Get your kids involved too! They will enjoy doing it with you!

Eat less and excercise more. It really is that simple!! Ever wonder why belly bands, stomach stapling, and gastric bypass work? Simple, you cannot eat as much. One little trick is to slow down your eating. Take 20 minutes to eat a fairly small meal. This works because your brain doesn't recognize that your satiated until about that long. Also, break your meals up into a few smaller meals, about 6 per day. Protein bars and shakes can substitute for a meal, especially at night. Drink WATER. Not soda, not juice, not beer, but WATER!!! Snack occasionally, have a candy bar or other little temptation. 3x a week or so, so you feel a little naughty. Otherwise your crave these foods if you deprive yourself totally, and then you'll end up binging. Thats no good. And try to get a little bit of excercise. Start with a 20 minute walk every day. Add 5 pounds after a weeks or so. I like to carry a backpack with a 25 pound plate in it while I walk. Increase the weight gradually. Don't go too heavy or you'll risk back injury though. Add some simple calesthenics. Push ups, sit ups, squats. All that stuff from elementary gym class. The reason why the military uses them, and the reason why they are still taught in gym classes around the country is BECAUSE THEY WORK!! It will certainly take some time and some dedication on your part, but it will happen. After some time, read some of the fitness magazines to help vary your workout routine. Good luck, and best of health to you.

i cant believe someone would say you are too heavy to exercise because that isnt true. like other people said walking is the best way to start. moving more through out the day is good. park towards the back of the parking lot when u do your shopping. getting the kids involved is a must because then u will be setting a good example and they will realize being healthy is the best way to live. your kids might not be overweight now which is good but they could become overweight. also building muscle is necassary because when u build muscle you will lose more weight. buy some dumbells they are like $10 at walmart. you should start out small maybe 2-4lbs because you are a begginer. dont work out so hard that you feel strained or so tired you cant do daily chores because then u will just want to give up. just be consistant and always keep it on ur mind that you are trying to lose weight so u will think hey i shouldnt eat that because it will just set me back. try to eat balanced meals and dont try to make urself a different kind of meal than the family because that will cost more and be more stressful. i really hope everyones answers will help and you stick with it :)

Start out walking for 20 minutes..everyday...work up to 30 then 40 minutes. When you comfortable with that try light jog run for a few minutes at the beginning of you walk and at the end...just add a minutes or two each time. Swimming is very good but you may not have access to a pool or its too cold out. Lifting weights is very good for weight loss but you should use a waist belt to help with possible strain...you don't have to lift very heavy, many reps with light weight will work well in the beginning.

If you have the $ a personal trainer is the best and may be worth it for just 1 or 2 sessions. Cut back on all fried food and candy, get some veggies & fruit everyday and Good Luck!

You don't need a gym!!! All you have to do to burn fat is do housekeeping, walk at least an hour a day, do the busy mom things and play with the kids, and eat as many fresh unaltered fruits and vegetables/ salads as you can (not potatoes). Skip the condiments, dressings, dairy, etc. and stick with avocados, olive oil, small amounts of protein (very small, only once a day).
Change WHAT you eat and you will automatically lose weight.

NEVER skip meals, this will only make you fatter. Have breakfast, then eat a small meal every 3 hours, this way your metabolism will be fast. You can set your alarm every 3 hours so you won't forget to eat, this will help you get used to it. Yes, it is better to eat 5-6 small meals a day than 2 big ones. Do not watch TV or sit for too many hours a day!

Good Luck!!

Im a mom too and can tell you a few things, plus I used to manage a gym in CA.

First, DO NOT go out and buy equiptment. If you need a bike or a treadmill look up freecycle on yahoo and see if someone in your area has one to give away. Give it two months if not, someone will!

Next do atkins. It works because it has to. It puts your body into KETOSIS which is a physical state of weight loss. You lose even while asleep. The only thing is, you have to stick to the 20 g carbs a day, no matter what or you get out of ketosis. Cheating on atkins is not like cheating on weight watchers. Email me if you want to know more about atkins.

Lastly, the trick to working out is LIKING IT. If you hate going across town to a gym, you will quit. If you hate biking alone, you will quit. You know what works for me? I turn on music and dance, all alone in my room, for 20 minutes a day! (You need to do at least 20 min straight to get the real benefits, 2 hours at the most or you start burning sugar.) Or I ride my stationary bike while my soap is on! No bike...no soap.

See what I mean? You can do this without the stuff TV says you need to BUY to lose weight.

I was a stay at home mom too and was over weight. Hard to take care of yourself when you a re taking care of everyone else!
Here's what I did. I bought some tapes by "The firm". If you use weights you'll increase your metabolism. I started off without weights and worked my way up. I also started eating small meals throughout the day like;
Breakfast-egg white scramble with 1/2 Grapefruit.
Snack-2oz of turkey lunch meat and small banana
Lunch-Chick breast with salad
snack-2oz chicken with 1/2 cup oatmeal
dinner-Beef and veggies
snack-fruit

This worked like a charm-drink lots of water-NO SUGAR!
God bless and good luck.

I would suggest a cleansing diet. I did this and lost 12 pounds and 19 inches in 9 days. I continued and lost 29 pounds in a month. I like the program since it works by giving your body nutrition through protein shakes with digestive enzymes and vitamins and then cleansing out the toxins. We get toxins in our bodies from pesticides, preservatives, water, pollution, medications, food additives etc…. These toxins enter our bodies and get stored in our fat cells. To shrink the fat, we need to get rid of the toxins through cleansing. The program also has a natural diet pill to help your metabolism and curb cravings. It works and it works fast. My skin has improved from the cleansing. You can get more info at this toll free number 1-877-587-4647. It is pricey but worth it! I think cleansing is really important to health and weight loss. Give it a try and good luck! http://diet4cleansing.com

Get a good pair of shoes, learn how to do a few stretches, and walk as much as you can. And drink a lot of water. Eat healthy, and don't bring junk food into the house. If you're anything like me, chances are good you'll eat it if it's there. And drink a lot of water instead of sodas or other sugary drinks.

Good luck!
