Over 5 years ago I found out I had emphasema and gave up smoking (Pack of 25 a day for over 25 years). I've had depression problems all my life, and my doctor put me on anti-depressants. At the same time I retired. Any resemblence of a libido has disappeared with the drugs. I've since gained about 55 lbs and now he is harping on my loosing weight. Just curious if any one else has had problems with weight while on anti-depressants. Any thoughts on the subject will be appreciated-Thanks-

I went from being a slender 127 pound, physically healthy person who exercised 5-6 days a week... to weighing over 210 pounds within a matter of 8 months on Paxil. I had no desire to exercise or have sex. I couldn't get the motivation to do anything, I was so high from the drugs. And that was only 20mg of Paxil. I've been off it for about 18 months and am still cleaning up the damage it did to my body :-( I've managed to drop 40 pounds and am working with my doctor to get back to normal- drug-free.

Yes that is a big problem with taking anti-depressants.
The only solution that I have found through personal experience and research it to get involved in a community project to take your mind off of your own personal issues and focus on helping others. Also some sort of regular exercise program. Any will do, walking, riding a bike, swimming etc.
Best wishes for you.

Yes. Some antidepressants can cause weight gain. Your doctor should be willing to let you try a different one or more until you find a better fit. The lack of libido is another good reason to switch. Good luck.
