it depends on what state you live in. youll have to take a test first where u drive with someone. they have a system of points they go by where if you park to close to the curb or do something wrong they take points off. if you pass you get your pic and license either a permanent one or temporary depending on your states policy. one hint on your test- make sure you come to a complete stop and wait for 3 to 5 seconds before driving again. good luck

It depends on your state. They will probably photograph you right there. They may also fingerprint you. They will likely verify that you can see well enough to operate a motor vehicle. In some states they may ask you if you'd like to be an organ donor in case you die in an automobile accident. These things vary from state-to-state. A few states have even started requiring multiple forms of identification -- amazingly not accepting a US passport by itself as proof of citizenship.
I think it's good to view the whole experience as a lesson in government. It's all sort of weird, but at the same time interesting.
They may or may not give you your regular driver's license at the time of your successful visit to the DMV. Chances are, they'll give you a temporary license and mail the regular license to your stated address (one more check to see if that's your real address).
Congratulations & drive carefully!

It depends on the state. In Oklahoma you get it on the spot, in other states it gets mailed to you (so they know the address you gave them is good). In any case you will get some kind of proof that you have joined the ranks of licensed drivers. A temporary card perhaps.

IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT STATE !!!!
In New York, they'll give you a Temp. card, and they will mail you the original so as to confirm that you really reside where you claim that you reside.
In Virginia, they'll take your picture and give you the card thesame day in the motor vehicle within an hour if all your docs. are straight.
If you are in a different state than the two above, please just go inside your DMV and ask them or go online and check the process for your state.

You didn't say what state you're in.
In Illinois; you
1) go to DMV
2) Take wriiten and Driving test
3) If you pass you return to desk to take your photo and get your license then and there.
This will vary from state to state. You may want to go to your state's website to see what they say will occur.
Good luck. Be safe. And God bless you

in my state (va) they have you fill out a form, including something for selective service, you take a road test, have your picture taken, and they give you your card. be sure to bring some photo id, and another piece of paper id.
