I have to say that when i was in the USA i tried American chocolate, and didnt buy any more! It was not to my taste. I'm don't particularly like Belgian or Swiss chocolate either. To us Brits, brought up on yummy little Cadbury's Buttons, you just CANNOT beat English chocolate...... unless its Irish! Irish Cadbury's is su - bloody - perb! Honestly, you have to try it and compare it to English. It must be all that luscious grass those cows eat!

I live in the USA and I do love imported chocolate.... but there are several kinds that are alright: Baker's cooking chocolate ... which you can eat (the semi-sweet, not the unsweetened), and York Peppermint Patties have quite a decent cover of chocolate, and Mounds Bars with the coconut inside have a bittersweet covering... and Hershey's with almonds is quite ok ... the plain one I do not like ... We are getting better though.

I was given a nice bar of Ghirardelli for Christmas and it was really good ... dark and smokey, almost.

I think it's a matter of personal preferance. I think British chocolate is much sweeter and heavier (creamier). I like both British and American chocolate, but I can only eat British chocolate if I'm really hungry. If I'm already semi-full, forget it. It's too rich!

I've never had American chocolate, so I can only comment from a British point of view. I'm a big fan of British chocolate (Cadbury's, Galaxy, Nestle etc) - they're all lovely!

Depends what you prefer.
I've tried both. Got Cadbury chocolate right now... love it.
American chocolate is too bitter for my liking.
My American relatives love British chocolate.

i love american candy but not sure of thier chocolates, the Reese's Pieces are really yummy. Hershey's is not bad but I can't stand Cadbury's. The candy over here tastes awful!
I'd say American candy is good but not their chocloate British chocolate is much better.

Yes, even familiar brands that I buy when in the USA don't taste the same as they do at home. I think something must either be added or taken away for the American market. Buy the stuff in Canada and it tastes just as good as the UK. It's very strange, but true.

I love America but I don't really like your chocolate. However, I think that's because I've been eating British chocolate all my life. Americans probably love Hershey Bars! It's just what you're used to. Happy New Year!

I do like British chocolate - but it pales when compared to Swiss or Belgian chocolate.

It might be a personal taste but i much preferred British chocolate - American chocolate tasted really artificial but obviously nothing compares to Swiss or Belgian
