Royal icing is made up of powdered sugar, egg whites or meringue powder (I use meringue powder as it's safer), vanilla or other flavor extract, and water. Also, glycerin is added to help with the consistency. It's perfectly safe for people to eat, and besides the sugar content, is it safe for dogs to eat as well?

There is nothing that will harm your dog in it except the sugar.
I can tell you care for you pet very much, so you will know that.
Like us dogs and cats should not have to much sugar in their diet,if any.
It was Xmas/New year and we all have a bit too much sugar at this time of year, like chocolate at Easter. So don't fret your dog will be fine.
There is nothing else in the ingredients that is bad or would harm your pet.!

Actually, it is not good for dogs to eat human foods that have a high sugar content. Our friend used to feed her dog treats like this, but now her dog is a diabetic. She has to arrange her daily schedule around giving her dog a daily insulin shot, which makes out of down trips a little difficult. However, if you do not feel that my argument is a strong enough incentive to stop feeding your dog sweet treats then I would consult your local vet. He or she would be able to advise you about the type of diet that is best suited for you dog.

I would never feed a dog human food if I didn't have to (with mine i put just a little bit of baby food on his special diet food to get him to start eating). Years ago when i had a miniature dachshund and my parents were alive, my mother would feed our dog human food as well as dog food, with one of his favorites being vanilla icecream. When he was older he had congestive heart failure and a few years after that died, she never changed his diet and he was slightly over weight. Just stick to dog food.

NO. It's not "healthy" for us to eat it either. Stick with dog food or dog treats for dogs, not people food. Of course, if it was accidental, I wouldn't worry about it. I just wouldn't feed it to them on purpose.

I believe there shouldn't be a problem other than the ones we have; weight gain or canine diabetes
