I believe if you want to serve your country and get a college degree the Navy is the way to go. I am going on 15 years in and the Navy is changing. I am on sea duty and have time to go to school. I have been to Iraq 2 tours now and have not been on a ship. The Navy is doing allot of Mobile Security jobs now and there is time for school in Country and away. You cannot go wrong with the Navy.

The navy is ships. Ships go to sea. The odds of you getting shore duty right out of boot camp or school are just above 0%.

If you are looking to join in order to go to college then forget about that idea. The navy is a full time job and then some. You won't have much time for college.

If you are looking to join so that you can attend college on the GI Bill AFTER you finish your enlistment that's great. Go for it.

its a good thing to enlist, if you want to go to college and get your degree while in the service its kinda of a good idea if you have time to go to college after working 12, 13, 15 hours a day. they pay 75% to a 100% with the tuition assistance and they also offer distance learning if you are deployed at sea or base, depending what kind of specialty you are looking for, you most like will be sent to a squadron or a ship, or with the marines in iraq, etc. just do the decision the you wont regret later saying "oh i hate this freaking job" ;)
