As I've learned it (and I'm not saying this is Truth, just one possibility), "As above, so below" means that what happens in the spiritual plane also happens in the physical plane. So... if you train yourself to think healthier thoughts, you will become a healthier person. As someone else mentioned, it's about macrocosms (big picture) and microcosms (little picture), so one could also say that if the country is in danger, the citizien is in danger; if the whole faith is compromised, the individual believer is compromised, etc.

"as above, so below"
This phrase comes from the beginning of The Emerald Tablet and embraces the entire system of traditional and modern magic which was inscribed upon the tablet in cryptic wording by Hermes Trismegistus. The significance of this phrase is that it is believed to hold the key to all mysteries. All systems of magic are claimed to function by this formula. "'That which is above is the same as that which is below'...Macrocosmos is the same as microcosmos. The universe is the same as God, God is the same as man, man is the same as the cell, the cell is the same as the atom, the atom is the same as...and so on, ad infinitum."

It comes from the Emerald Tablet.
That which is shown/visible is only a mirror image of that which is hidden. What we do in the physical world has a direct and mirroring influence in the spiritual world. By making changes on a spiritual level we effect change in our physical realm.

Are you referring to Deut. 4:39 "Know therefore this day and consider it in thine heart, that the Lord is God in Heaven above and upon the earth beneath; there is none else".
