several yrs ago..I went out with a few women...we was not boyfriend...girlfriend deal but we went out and even fooled around but nothing was serious and we both knew that...it's fine to go out and have a male companion

No, not at all...there are many types of relationships that are mutually beneficial in this way....the key to it is communication...as long as both of you are in agreement that this is what the both of u want...sex is a very emotional act and before long there will be one party who will start to "catching feelings" and may want more out of the relationship.
So as long as the two of you communicate exactly what it is that u expect of each other then it is perfectly fine.
