Windows Vista is the latest from Microsoft. The last version as Windows XP, before that was Windows 2000.
No matter how great Windows 2000 was (or is), I recommend you upgrade to Windows XP. Any problems you may have had in the past are addressed in SP2 or recent updates.

My Pick: Windows XP SP2
-2000 was good but had a MILLION problems so youll be seeing alot of blue screens
-and theres so much new virus' and spyware that you really need the most upgraded sytem..
-check out Linux (Mandriva) or (Ubuntu) both are free and really easy to install and run..
-Mandriva is extremely easy to run. Im on it right now. You can even run windows programs on it with a program called WINE. and you install programs easily with a function called URPM
PS)Also just wait till the new windows comes out in a couple Months...i think its called windows vista.

2000 is more stable, however XP is a requirement for many programs. try 2000 for as long as you can. Patches may be available. But I have a feeling that XP will be inevitable.

I've been running 2000 for quite a few years now at the small business I work for. Its been great and solid. Our MS certified engineer agrees, and we've stuck with it, passing on XP and Vista upgrades.

but really soon they say that the new windows vista shall be released and it is said that testers have seen it better than any opertation system yet.

Its personal preference. I personally would go with 2000 Pro, since if you ever have problems, you can upgrade very easily to XP.
