Yes. It wasn't just studying the bible, but that was a major factor. It developed over years of serious work: (I was training home group leaders and ministers in bible study, by the end..)
More and more the whole framework became difficult to hold together against what I was honestly reading.
The simple assumptions about the bible just did not hold water. I even did a couple of courses on liberal theology to see if that provided a route for an accommodation, but it wasn't one I could take. It basically required believing two different things at once.

I was going to skip answering this question until I read Fish's arrogant accusal.
Yes, because I've read the Bible, I've chosen atheistic agnosticism, and I believe it a wise decision.
I was a religion major in College (a Methodist college) with an emphasis on Biblical studies, and I spent a year in seminary. I also studied Greek and Hebrew so I could read the original texts.
Dan Barker, the co-head of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, was an evangelical pastor for a number of years, and wrote several religious anthems that are still sung in churches. He has a Podcast called Freethought Radio that you and others would probably enjoy.

in the previous 3 years i've got examine, from front to back, and studied the Bible six situations (at the instant on type seven). All of my Christian friends examine their Bible on a on a regular basis foundation. don't be attentive to what the main concepts-blowing stats are, yet in my own journey I even have stumbled on that greater do (and have) examine the Bible. the issue is that some Christians in basic terms examine the recent testomony with the aid of fact they concentration fullyyt on the "Jesus thoughts" and not the finished tale. that ought to be one clarification why a appropriate learn on analyzing the Bible in its entirety could coach low numbers between Christians (?).

I became an atheist while in bible college - translating the koine greek. It was the very LAST thing I expected to happen. I tried to turn off my mind and stop THINKING. I thought perhaps thinking was "pride" and so I turned to hours and hours of prayer. That too didn't work.
I think Mark Twain said "The surest way to become an atheist is a thorough reading of the bible."

This is one of the many problems with teaching children that every word of the Bible is literally true. I don’t know how any educated mind can accept that. It’s missing the point of the true value of the Bible as well.
Having been there myself, I understand where you’re coming from. But you were misled by your teachings, not by God.
All I can tell you is that if you ever reach a point in your life where you need God, he will be there for you. He won’t be angry at all. You will have the sense of the lost lamb being found and comforted. I just want you to remember this no matter where you go in life.

Getting truth from a bible is like trying to squeeze custard out of a weasel's butt. It amazes me that so many people can be bought off by such a cheap lie. Congratulations on achieving the rational state.

I embraced islam from being a christain. I too felt something wrong...especially the way I was to be punished for Eve's doings. i did not agree with that, Islam came and cleared the Adam and Eve...Both were ate, both repented and Allah forgave them BOTH...but to your question,
Yes. the bible has contidicting verses, which were written and changed and changed and changed by many men, and now the True bible --will lets just say...there is no true bible any more, just new added versions. so...I turned to Islam.
In fact, the Qur'an in its' arabic text has not been changed, touched not altered in any way for over 1400 years. WOW!. Also in the Qur'an Allah or God in englished told us that He will preserve the Qur'an, so that it would be the last Book of Guidance to mankind. And those standing by its word. Do not get me wrong, translations into english and other languages will lose some words meaning, that is way you will find Qu'ran with the titles "The Noble Qu'ran: English translation of the meanings and commentary."
Also in the qur'an; which in itself is a mircale...Allah challenges us to produce the smallest, shortest verse if you did not belive this is the word of Allah...
Just as God Almighty had previously endowed the Prophets Moses and Jesus, upon them be peace, with the miracles that were foremost in the kind of the acts in the highest demand in their times (Moses with the staff and white hand because in his time sorcery was in most demand, and Jesus with raising the dead and healing certain illnesses since in his time healing was most favored) so too He made eloquence the most notable aspect of the Qur’an, which is the chief miracle of the Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace and blessings. When the Qur’an was revealed, it challenged first the literary men of the Arabian Peninsula, saying: If you are in doubt concerning what We have sent down on Our servant, then produce a sura of its like. It challenged them, put down their intellectual pretensions and, by continuing, If you do not [produce a sura of its like] and you will not at all, then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for unbelievers, humbled them.
please for more information about the Qur'an or Islam let me know. For the truth is out there, it is a matter of turing to it, or turing your back.

No, not me, but it can go either way. Some atheists turn Christian because they read the Bible. Sometimes God uses the Bible to His advantage and other times the devil uses the same thing to his advantage. What you think is a contradiction may not necessarily be one in reality.

Yes, the Bible has many contradictions, and no 2 Biblical manuscripts are the same. Plus the oldest Bible we have was written about 350 years after Jesus.
Have you read the Quran? It doesn't have any of these problems.
