when you can't even agree on what he is?

Is he everywhere and in all things, or is he outside of time and space?

Did he create us out of nothing as we are or did he influence evolution?

The basic things people tend to believe about god differ so very much and are rooted in nothing more than conjecture. Wouldn't you expect to have a better idea of the nature of something that actually exists? Especially one that you claim you have a personal relationship with?

If your answer is "faith" that just proves my point. Faith is not an indicator of truth, it is a hope that something is true in the absense of anything to support it.

Not to mention that humans have worshiped over 1500 different gods throughout history.

Is God Real? To that I give you the best example I can think of, the Human Brain.

Studies, like that done by the University of Michigan, and features in the Discovery Channel program, The Amazing Life of the Human Brain, shows just how amazing the human brain is.

Every second while awake, we are absorbing 40MBs of data per second. That’s 144 gigabytes per second and about 2 terabytes per day. That’s a lot of data even for the largest computer. When we sleep at night, and only at night or under nighttime conditions, all that data is sorted and stored through the creation of synaptic connectors and biochemical bounds. The brain has enough volume to allow for the creation of these storage connectors to last over 10,000 years.

Without the need of a creator, what evolutionary pressure could cause the need for this much volume that would take that long to fill? Clearly, man was either created by God to live that long, or if evolve, once lived that long, and has since de-evolved to what we are today. Which do you think it is?

This is why I believe in God. I use the brain he gave me, and designed for me, to determine something beyond imagining.

One thing that God definitely is, is paradox.
He is everywhere and in all things, AND He is outside of time and space.
He created us out of nothing...but He didn't exactly explain His methods, which is just as well...can you imagine the chaos if everyone knew how to create universes complete with intelligent life?? Just as well, I think, that He kept some things to Himself!

Your major problem here, is that you are expecting created things to be able to understand and explain their Creator. That's sort of like asking a frog to explain Friday.

As far as having a personal relationship, that is only possible because God reaches down to us on our level. My dog, for instance, could never explain to the other dogs on the block why I do some of the things I do...but he loves me anyhow.

In all actuality - I cannot say to you that God is real. Christians operate a program one of whose technical philosophical presuppositions is the existence of a force separate from ourselves be it community (theology of Dürkheim) or God (theology of the Fathers).

With regard to truth, the question is what your definition of truth is. Prior to the Renaissance there were two notions of truth. The truth of fact, i.e. the sky is blue, and the truth of μυθος (mythos) - not factual truth but truth of wisdom.

So then - with regard to the question of God - there is no factual evidence to prove that God exists. However, the lack of evidence does not particularly preclude existence.

With respect to mythological truth (which again is completely different from factual truth), God exists. God is the central hero of the myth of Christianity, Judaism and Islam as well as the mythology of other religions. Read up on your Joseph Campbell - you'll know what I mean.

I don't know if god is real: I believe it is. I believe in a supernatural existance- which may be extreme human love itself. I don't have any personal relationship with god. I feel it's existance when I love other people- The answers about creation and evolution are best found by scientists. I wish the religions would agree on one concept of a God.

The scriptures are the basis for our understandiong of G-d, and at this juncture, I apologize for those who misquote, misunderstand or misinterpret the word of G-d. There are mature and immature believers at different levels of spiritual growth. First of all, He is spirit. How do we define spirit, well, like the wind, it's shapless and formless. It surrounds us and goes where and when it wants to. Do you know that the Hebrew for Holy Spirit is Ruach Ha Kodesh (The Holy Breath)?

Let us talk about Creation. If He had to create from something, then He created the something also. So in effect, He created all from nothing, He can do that He is G-d. How do we understand Him as G-d, well, we do not put human limitations on Him for He is G-d. Consider a parent, an artist, a composer, each acts according to certain rules in doing their work. Yet those rules are not reverse incumbent upon them. Though a parent, artist, composer etc are recognized for their accomplishments, these accomplishments, in and of themselves do not define them nor control who they are. The same holds true with G-d. He is that artist with His thumb outstretched to His canvas and surveys what He has done.

Let me now reddress something which I postulated earlier. Every believer is at a level of spiritual growth. a persons spiritual growth with G-d is as any other relationship. No realtionship will flourish absent constant contact and communication. My understanding of G-d and of His ways comes from a study of His word and of His creation, and my understanding based on studies outside of the scriptures. Though I have faith, I also have knowledge and wisdom based on a lifetime of experience with Him who in essence created, not only this world, but faith, hope, love, truth and knowledge. He created the capacity to think and to reason and frankly He doesn't expect me to throw out the brain which He gave me in order to believe in and undedrstand Him. I will post a link to one of my websites which has some specific arguments for reasons to know Him.

You have evidently chose to "believe" your own reasoning.

How sure are you that YOU are correct. You don't agree with all rationalists. Therefore some of you must be wrong.

Consider this, IF God IS real, you don't want to be wrong about that.

Yes, I KNOW God does exist. Asking for proof is folly!
Even atheists and agnostics believe things they can't prove.
Why do you make plans for tomorrow. You can't prove that the sun will rise tomorrow? Yes, it has been proven that the sun has risen every day in our past....but there is absolutely NO proof it will rise tomorrow. You just have faith that it will.
Why do you believe that you have a heart inside your body? Yes, it has been proven that humans have hearts....but have you ever seen yours? Perhaps there is a troll inside your body squeezing a little rubber ducky to make your blood flow. You do not have proof but you have faith that you are like all other humans and have a heart.
You fight against the idea that there is a REAL God because that scares you. It would cramp your sinful lifestyle, open the question that you might have to suffer an eternity in Hell for your sins and, most importantly, make you out for a fool for denying God.
Christians believe in God by faith. Just because YOU choose not to believe the truth does not mean it is not true.

Even if you know with absolute certainty that God is with you, even if you feel his presence constantly, everything you know about him is still filtered through your mind and influenced by your personal experiences. Imagine God as pure light for a moment. Then imagine all the stuff in the filter of our brains that comes from all our experiences. Therefore, what we know of God is not too clear and colored by our experiences.

I believe that his grace is everywhere and in everything, otherwise things would be far worse for us.
