I heard that ice would lift the fibres back up, but this didn't work.
Any other suggestions please?

Well after the ice melts you have to comb or brush it up a bit. a steam cleaner would probably do the job. They have little ones now.

IF the carpet is a good quality and IF the furniture wasn't there for 10 years, it might come back to life. But it will take time.

USE A STEAM IRON OVER A WET CLOTH THEN JUST PULL FIBERS UP WITH PLIERS OR FINGERS
