When in doubt, throw them out. I usually won't eat anything that is more then a day or two old.

If you don't freeze it throw it out after a week. If you put it in the freezer throw it out after a month because by then you wouldn't want it anymore :) also more leftovers will be coming. Don't forget to rotate leftovers from back of the refrigerator so that the old stuff can either be used up or thrown out. Happy New Year.

I am very picky I throw it out if it is 3 days old. Now my mother did not use that rule of thumb and we had food poisoning 3 times growing up. that means we had 7 sick people and only 1 1/2 bathrooms. Not anything I want to do again.

Looking at the answers I can not believe how many people said a week. You could not pay me to eat food that has been there a week

Depends on what it is. Some stuff no longer then 2 days, other stuff stays a week. Hard & fast rule if you make it on Tuesday and it's still there on the following Tuesday the trash gets it no matter what or the condition!

It really depends on what it is. If you mean left overs from "last nigths dinner" that maybe you cooked yourself you'd have to make sure it's covered otherwise it goes off quickly. Take away food on the other hand i would leave too long...

Just make sure the food is contained properly and it might last 3 days.

Generally about 3 or 4 days. But I use a bit of judgement based on what the item is as well. (Obviously last nights left over salmon will only be good for one day, versus fruit salad, which I will just eat until it's gone!)

If I do not eat them within a couple of days, I throw them out.

I would say 3 to 4 days if kept cold. Especially if it is Turkey, Chicken, and Fish. Don't risk it, when in doubt throw it out!
