DUDE!

FEW of these folks got it right. "Old type socket" is pretty vague and can cause you all sorts of trouble.

Many of these people are assuming that it is 25 pin Parallel port. That was only used for a VERY short period of time. More common was the 25 pin SCSI port. If you plug this type of port into your parallel port, there is a good chance that you can ruin your scanner.

You really have to check with the manufacturer on what kind of port you need.

My suggestion, if it is that old, THROW IT AWAY and buy a new one. They are only about $50 at the store. The $50 one is probably better than the one you have PLUS you will save the pain and agony of trying to make this one work!

You need a USB to Parallel Adapter. You can find them at your local Walmart, Radio Shack, Office Max, etc. They run around 10-15 dollars.
How old is this scanner? Before you buy this adapter make sure the software is compatible for your newer system. Good luck! ;)

first off identify the type of connector the scanner has...it could be a SCSI socket
a parallel (centronics) socket.

you can buy cables that connect USB to both of these.. however then youd have to find a driver for the scanner. For the cost I consider buying a new scanner, that has compatible software for your OS and forget the problems.

You cannot connect the old style 26 pin connector to the new style computers. You can buy a pci parallel port card that will allow you to connect it though. It'll have to be installed in your newer style computer. If you don't know how to do that, I'd say get a new scanner.

It's probably the same cable as a printer one. Standard USB on the pc end, big square thing the other end. They are still readily avaliable from shops(or the cupboard under the stair)
