of course dot net.any advanced company now a days prefers dot net as it has some corollary advantages too

What is your need for this ? If you are a business man and you need a web based solution, then stick with java, as it can be run on open source servers. If you already have windows 2003 server, then .net would be better as it takes lesser development time.
As a job field, i think java is slightly better than .net in india. It is almost same abroad.

JAVA is better then dot net... today in IT world there is a lot of opportunities for JAVA professionals.. and it is considered as a most secured language for making software and user freindly....

we just need a job..
study both... do basic certification course for both
apply with resume to jobs accordingly..
when u got the job --> study,and implement deeply out of that two
because both will be valid atleast for 20 years from now
