Two men named Lazarus are mentioned in the Bible. One was the man whom Jesus raised from the dead, the brother of Martha and Mary. He became the focus of a great deal of local interest and the religious leaders of the time were eager to kill him as well as Jesus. He is greatly respected by Muslims, which is why the house in Bethany where the three of them lived has been so well maintained over the centuries.

The other Lazarus is the fictitious beggar in the parable of Jesus about a rich man (Dives) and the man who begged at his gate. They both died and whereas the beggar went to Abraham's bosom the rich man went to hell because of the selfishness he had shown during his lifetime.

Because of the parable, the word "lazar" was used in Mediaeval English for "beggar".

Lazarus: Martha and Mary's brother (not Mary as in Jesus's mother, but a different Mary ). Lazarus was also a friend of Jesus and He raised him from the dead when he got sick and died.
