It's never too early! The sooner you begin talking to your baby, the stronger the bonding process is for you. While your baby won't be able to hear the sounds (the ear develops at about 4 weeks gestation, but the organs needed to process the sounds arent' mature enough to do so until about 20 weeks), they can sense the vibrations from the maternal voice pretty early on. While a developing fetus can hear and even react to sounds from the outside environment, it is your voice that is the loudest in it's little water-filled home!! Development aside, it is the relationship you build with your baby that is encourged by early communication (even if it is only one-sided!:)

I found this at : http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002398.htm

# Weeks 4 to 5

* formation of tissue that develops into the vertebra and some other bones
* further development of the heart which now beats at a regular rhythm
* movement of rudimentary blood through the main vessels
* beginning of the structures of the eye and ears
* the brain develops into five areas and some cranial nerves are visible
* arm and leg buds are visible

# Week 6

* beginning of formation of the lungs
* further development of the brain
* arms and legs have lengthened with foot and hand areas distinguishable
* hands and feet have digits, but may still be webbed

# Week 7

* nipples and hair follicles form
* elbows and toes visible
* all essential organs have at least begun to form

# Week 8

* rotation of intestines
* facial features continue to develop
* the eyelids are more developed
* the external features of the ear begin to take their final shape

In weeks 4-5 and week 8 it describes the ears. I'm not sure when they can actually hear noise, but they can most likely sense vibrations.
Singing to them and speaking is good from the time you feel comfortable.
In fact, I have read somewhere that if you sing a particular song to them while in the womb, the song tends to soothe them after they are born because they recognize it.
*Personal experience:
My mother used to sing me a song that she made up all the time. One night, I was staying with my aunt and she didn't sing the song. I cried and cried wanting the song to be sung to me for my bedtime. Finally, I started rocking myself in my carrier and humming the song to myself. I was only a few months old. I couldn't talk yet. My cousin was there and she is the one that recognized the song I was humming as my mother's song because she had been at my house when my mother sang it to me.
So, the things your child hears from VERY early stays with them.
I would start singing and talking right away so that the baby will be used to you and your voice will be soothing to the baby after it is born.

at any stage they will not know what you are saying but they will know your voice and another good way to get the baby stimulated is to get a classical cd or some baby lullabies and get a pair of head phones and put them on your belly they will move around and they love it i did that with my daughter and she is a music baby she loves music and congrats

Immediately. Baby's hear and respond to sound very early. They also respond to your emotional state. If you talk to your baby, your emotional state will probably respond as well. One thing I did when my Wife was pregnant was to put some headphones on her belly and then talk to the baby through a microphone (not too loud). When our baby was born, she was crying but when she heard my voice she stopped ! Very cool !

That is up to you. Some people are more connected to their babies than others. I talked to my daughter daily once I started showing. I know some people who never talked directly to their baby though. It is all up to you...no right or wrong time.
