Try straightening it first with a flat iron. This will take a while but to get the result you want, it is worth it. Then put curlers in your hair and sleep with them overnight. This is better than straightening your hair and then curling it, which causes twice as much damage. For a long-term solution, you can get your hair relaxed at a salon, and style it in waves at home.

you need to either get your hair chemically straightend or getting a crimper to make a wavy but straight look. conair has the best crimpers. you may need to use a conair flat iron before using the crimper, but it all depends on how damaged and frizzy your hair is. also, use a sleek shine spray after crimping for a cool look.

Don't try to chemically straighten it, It will damage your hair! Try to buy a hair straightner instead, use a straight hair product like sunsilk to wash with. If this doesn't work try to go to a hair salon too.

Depending on your hair texture, you may want to try some of these products designed to define and elongate naturaly kinky curls:
Miss Jessie's Culry Pudding (www.missjessies.com) or Kinky Curly Curling Custard (www.kinky-curly.com).
Good Luck!
