my roomates have all had colds for almost a week and I haven't gotten it yet. Last night, I kissed my bf who also has a cold, and today I have it. She says that it was their cold, not his that I have. Which is true??

Usually before you show symptoms, you're infectious. This is the "incubating period" or, as you call it, the hibernating period. Your BF is right. It's probably your friend's cold you got.

Some common colds have a hybernating period of 1-2 days, but most are dormant for 7 days before they exhibit symptoms. It is most likely you got your cold from your roomates.

Who cares whose cold you have? You may have both that produces different symptoms. Just be reassured that you never get the same cold twice...you may get the same symptoms but the organism is always different.
