It depends on what you're looking for in a relationship. If it's nothing serious, and your just having fun, then it's not a problem. But if you're looking for a relationship with a future, i.e. marriage & kids, then you might find the age gap causes some problems.

For a start, the younger person is going to want kids one day and that might not be what the older person wants. They might already have kids and they've probably grown up already, are they going to want to do all that again at their age? Even if they have kids straight away, they're going to be in their 60s when the kid is school. Also, if the older person is the woman, there maybe be health issues involved with pregnancy at that age. I know 49 isn't really that old for having a child, but it does increase the risks involved in childbirth.

The other thing to consider is what is going to happen in the future. Providing there's no fatal accidents, the older person is probably going to die of old age long before the younger person. If the older person dies at say 80, the younger person is going to be 56. Do they really want to be alone at that age? Would they be able to find someone else to live the rest of their life with?

This is quite a large gap which ever way around, but I know of 3 relationships where it has worked. An elderly gentleman I knew asked me to sing when I preached. I did and after the service we went to put flowers on his wife's grave. She had been 20 years older than him and they were happily married - and had a son. On her grave he had written, "Always young and beautiful to me". I was really touched.
I know two other gentlemen who have married ladies 30 years younger then themselves and have had very happy marriages.
Obviously the age difference worked out for them. I think I depends on the person.

The older that people get the less important it is to be close to the same age. However I would say that at 25, of either sex, they have not experienced enough of life yet to be viewed as a true partner to the other person.

If one partner is 25 and the other is 49, they're both adults - that's fine.

If one partner is 32 and the other is 8, that's not fine.

It depends on the individuals, but that does seem a little long, no matter who is the younger or older. The people would have very different experiences, and might have very different expectations and interests.

Do you share common interests? Have you discussed the issue of having children? How do your lifestyles differ? Do you share the same morals and values?

Think things through so you won't have a moment like later leave you clucking to yourself bemusedly, "What was I thinking?"

Just enjoy his company, but consider your "coupledom" a moment in time.

If you intend sticking the course for the long term I feel the age difference is too great but in he final analysis its your call.
