Feed your dog a diet of boiled chicken (remove the skin and bones) and rice -- no dog food. If the stool doesn't improve in two days, see your vet. Of course, if you see blood or parasites in the diarrhea, see your vet sooner - don't wait two days.

My vet made this suggestion to me... A dog is much like a child with diarrhea. If a child has had diarrhea very long be concerned and take him/her to the doctor. If not at that point, try the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, apple sauce, and toast. Ok, I had a weird dog that loved that stuff. After a while (she had a long term problem), the vet also suggested adding in cooked low fat ground beef. She had problems with her pancreas and was in the hospital for a while. After coming home from the hospital she was also on Prescription brand dog food which worked well.

With having a Vet Tech as a mother, I know that sick dogs need a vet, especially one with prolonged bouts of diarrehea. You can give him a child's dose of Kaopectate, but nothing with dyes or fruit flavor in it. It can cause more upset tummies. The Kaopectate Original liquid is best, but if you have to break a pill in half and get it down his throat you can also try that. Call your vet and tell him what you are doing and what is wrong with your dog. He may wish to make an emergency appointment for your pet.
Make sure he gets water, but don't let him over-hydrate himself. If he's at the water bowl for more than 5 minutes, take it away for a little while. Too much water can cause tummy trouble too, and re-liquefy his bowel-movements.
Let him eat very small meals of plain boiled, de-skinned white meat, low-sodium chicken broth, maybe some steamed plain white rice. Nothing too oily or fatty as the fats can make his intestines flare up again. If he appears to be losing a lot of weight, get him to a vet immediately.
If you can get a sample of the fecal matter to take to the vet, it would be great. Otherwise they'll have to get a sample while he's there. If you see any white little worms in his waste or around his rectum, be sure to mention it to the vet.
Hope your Doggy feels better!

There are some special dog foods, like Hill's i/d or Eucanuba intestinal. They are quite good. Also, canikur is a good pet medicine for diarrhea, I don't know if it has the same name in the US.

Pepto but pay close attention to weight. And above all give it time to work. (Fasting your dog for 24 hours works best,) but if he's diarrhea is sever you need to take him to the vet as its possible he got into something. Diarrhea and vomiting while it is the body's natural way to dispel toxins from our bodies, can be very serious. Please seek medical advise before administering any medication to your pet, phone calls to the vet are still free. :)

first you need to take the dog to the vet and see why their having diarrhea. sometimes there's a reason for it and if you stop your dog up they aren't able to get rid of whatever their body is trying to get rid of. if your vet says it's ok, immodium can be used, but ask your vet for the proper dosage for your pets size, age and medical history.

Whenever my dogs get any diarehea, I fry scramble eggs, then mix it with some cottage cheese, and cooked white rice. I do this for about two days and they are fine. Got this little trick from my vet.

None unless ok'd by your vet. You can however safely give your dog plain pumpkin (no spices) or plain yogurt with live active cultures or cottage cheese.
