I know it sounds doumb; but I can not get the oil cap off my newly purchassed 98 jeep wrangler 4.0 Liter Sahara. I turn the cap one way and it makes a 'clicking' sound. I can not turn it the other way. I have tried pushing down on the cap and turning; no luck doing that either.

Try tapping on the side of the cap with a rubber mallet, sounds like someone really torqued that cap on there, or the cap threads are cross threaded and damaged, as the threads are plastic, and the valve cover is aluminum.

It has to be turned to the left , lefty loosey, righty tighty. The clicking sound is the cap mechanism to keep it from being over tightened.
