If it has not been open and if it has not crystalized in the container, it is fine, maple syurp is a complex sugar, it was boiled down from 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup, then after it was boiled and then packaged, the then pasturized it, were the container was processed like preserves, they store the syrup up to 6 month before packaged and it is heated to pour in the various container.

As far as botulism, I do not know were thay person is coming from, there is not part of the product that can cause botulism, sugar would ferment like molasses, corn syrup or fruit jams or jellies, if your concerned the reheating is o.k., but only bring it to the boil, do not cook it silly, the it will become maple sugar.

I am a former chef in Canada, and have used it for 30 yrs, we are the worlds largest producer of maple syrup, more then the US does in 10 yrs, it is a safe product, and it cannot make your sick or kill you, not unless someone throws it at you and hits in the head??

toss it!!!!! you can get another! it's not worth risking! i realise that wasting stuff is not good, but if you were really concerned about that, you wouldn't have waited 3 years to look at the maple syrup. botulism spores can live in the syrup the same way they can get in honey so just throw it out.

Well, I think you should throw it away I mean keeping things around the house has a way of piling up until it consumes you. Do you really want to eat old stuff? What if it makes you sick or causes damage to your Brain? Think about it!!!
