I've been smoking regularly since 12. I've tried Zyban [with some success years ago - got me off for a year until I hit final exams!]

Patch, Zyban, gum... what works the best? I thought all 3 and am planning to see my doctor next week - but he likes someone with a plan, and right now there is SO much information out there!

Thanks for suggestions

Ask your doctor for a prescription for Chantix. I have been smoking for 35 years and was told in Sept to quit after having a heart attack. i tried everything. this is an amazing medication. Other options available are accupuncture which I have heard work well for some but is quite expensive

There are all sorts of things one can do, but the difficult part is always staying stopped. When the urge to smoke arises, put it off for an hour, then put it off again.

When you have to urge to smoke, push something away from you, have a glass of water, that will help.

Don't buy your usual brand of cigarettes. Every time you buy a pack, make it a different brand. Don't put your cigarettes in the usual place. If you carry them in your shirt pocket, move them somewhere else, so you have to think about it every time you smoke.

Make notes of when you get the urge to smoke. What's happening? What is the situation?

As much as possible, stay cheerful. Keep your mood up, watch comedies, hang around with cheerful friends.

I used to smoke two packs a day. I did it for 30 years. I stopped about 10 years ago, and now the idea of smoking is foreign to me. I watch people light up and think, "He's sucking burning rubbish into his lungs!"

Me been a heavy smoker since 11, and just quit (for good!!) last year (gonna have the 1st anniversary for it on the 10th). Hon you won't be able to quit unless you REALLY want to and your environment/family supports you with it. When you wanna quit, you QUIT. When you still feels the impulse to do it again and again, well don't quit until you're having anginas :))
Only 3 things can motivate you to stop your smoking, and those are pregnancy, lung cancer and death.
Good luck!! Never stop trying! And remember that you're putting those passive smokers in danger of THEIR health :)

The best and cheapest way to quit is cold turkey. I heard that after 3 days of being smoke free, all the nicotine is out of your system, the rest is mental addiction. You can quit if you REALLY want to, without any substitutes. Chew gum if anything.

My mom had smoked for 35 years and she tried that smoke away program. It has pills and a few other things and that helped her quit. She tried to smoke after taking it and she got sick! Good luck with quitting!

First thing you have to have is firm conviction that you can stop smoking. we all know that smoking is a bad habbit and not good for health. When you come to a decision that you want to quit, you are half way done. Go ahead you can stop. Best of luck.
