I just bought tomatoes saturday from the market and they spoiled already...i really thought they were not over-ripe....i was really selective of them....i'm not sure why they spoiled so quickly...i've been told not to put them in the fridge...so kept them on the kitchen counter in their bag. Was this a good thing to do or should I have refrigerated them?

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Do not refrigerate tomatoes
Do not keep them in the plastic bag they will spoil faster
Keep in cool dry spot
Keep away from other fruit
Do not wash them until you are ready to eat them
Buy red tomatoes that feel firm to the touch

Hope this helps. Try it it works best. But remember sometimes you get a bad batch at the stores and they will spoil no matter what you do. This is because if the store gets a large supply they are refrigerated to stop the spoilage. But them you get them home and they lay out they will spoil. Many produce companies try to extend the life of all their fruit and veggies and then pass on to the grocer. It is easy to get bad product nowadays. If the tomato feels cold to the touch in the store do not buy it.

Happy New Year

Best way to keep them from spoiling so quickly is to leave them out on the counter, not in a bag, this will preserve the freshness and flavor. If flavor is not that important to you, putting them in the fridge will extend their life, but at the cost of flavor. The lower temperature of the fridge will activate an enzyme that protects the flavor of the tomato, so this is why most advise not putting them in the fridge.

buy the a little firmer (under ripe) and leave 'em on the counter. the flavor is better in unrefridgerated tomatoes.
Or Eat 'em quick!

Refrigerate them but try not to keep them in plastic bags or wrap.

I would try to buy them not so ripe. Let them sit in open air and eat them sooner.
