Why Does My Kitten like to suck on me he is 11 weeks.

A lot of cats/kittens do this their whole life- mostly when they're tired out. It is comforting and relaxing to them. He DOES NOT need a bottle, or milk (most cats are lactose intolerant & cow's milk could make him sick). I'm sorry that you find the behaviour disturbing, but happy that you are responsible enough to try to find an answer. I'd be more concerned with the bite before the sucking - THAT part you can gently discourage. Please try to think of the sucking as an affectionate, endearing quality rather than a problem. If it grosses you out to have him suck on your person, try to substitute a toy or little blanket when he starts. All the best happiness and fun with your furkid! - Michelle

He's still a little guy, not used to being away from his mother. You're going to have to 'wean' him. As in, not let him suck.

he is probably just adapting to his ancestors way of living. keep in mind that kittens are part of the domestic cats. their genealogy lies among bobcats, american lynxes, tigers, and lions. they are playful cats. your kitten might want to feed; feed it milk preferrably in a suckable bottle with a cap. feed it fish. feed it awesome cat food.:]

hi, sweety--you are kitty's momms--you nurture kitty--kitty is suckling you for that reason--do not discourage that behavior. it is the behavior that comes next you want to watch for--when he starts to bite for the mating ritual--just before he starts to be able to spray--then is when you get him altered--he will not have the spray
idea yet, but his hormones are getting ready to teach him to.....

it's kind of a neat feeling when he suckles your hand, isn't it???
he is relaxing and getting ready to sleep. i kinda like it, myself--kitties are so cute.

he will suckle less and less as he matures.

I have a Cat who is 14 year now, and she still does this. I think it is there way of showing affection.

some kittens just do that, but some do it from being weaned to young. tell him no & lightly tap the nose w/ your finger. this is how mom corrects them when they do somthing wrong! :)

it is cuz she/he loves you and thinks you are his mom. It is just comforting like when a baby sucks on a pacifier=)

He proably still wants milk and isn't ready to be taking off his mother's milk. That's my guess.

Same here....

Just slap him off (not hardley) and tell him or her to stop and maybe she or he will learn.

Works with my kitten
