Are you like me and fed up of going into eateries and having to put up with some screaming rug rat or a buch of kids running amuck in the place? I am not talking about fast food joints, but nice places where these little bastards disregard everybody else's dining experience.

Maybe it's just the area in which I live, but I have noticed that if I go to restaurants with bars, I see very little to no screaming kids running around.

But yeah, if there aren't some already, I think restaurants exclusively for adults (but with no "adult" stuff) would be nice. Or maybe an area of a restaurant reserved just for adults. And I'm not saying that because I hate kids, because I don't. In fact, even though I'm not a parent myself, I'm sure a lot of parents would like that idea, too. I mean, sometimes it's nice to have a night out, just you and your spouse.

It would be nice... i have a 3 year old son... and when we have a night out to ourselves (to get away from children) it's always disturbing to be sat at a table right next to the table with 3 kids at it. We also do not take Nathan to nice restaurants for that simple reason... and i wish more parents (if they feel the need to eat in public with their children) to keep it at a restaurant with the golden arches... fine dining establishments are not the place for kids...

I've noticed that the more expensive the restaurant is, the less children there are. Parents don't want (or cant afford) to pay the price at those places, which tend not to have a kids menu either. But yes, screaming children ruins my appetite too.

There should be adults-only restaurants, or adults-only sections in restaurants. I agree, and I have children of my own. There should also be no kids allowed in movies after 7pm, imho. It ticks me off when I pay $10 an hour to leave my kids at home with a safe, responsible sitter so my husband and I can try to feel like normal adults for one night a month, and then our evening is ruined by somebody who brought their 2-year-old out. It's very rude. And yes, we do go to expensive restaurants and attend late-night movies. And there are still little noisy kids there!!! UGH!

But, on the flipside of the issue, I can say that if I never took my kids to places like Denney's, Burger King, K-Mart, or afternoon matinee movies, I'd never get out of the house. So, please, try to have a little patience in these situations. Even the best parents can have kids who meltdown, cry or act up now and then. Smiling at them, making funny faces, helping me push my cart - all nice ways to help. Thanks.

lol@"little bastards". I understand what you are saying. It's not really the kids fault, it's the parents who don't make them behave. I think they should have a section of the restaurant for families. I hate paying good money to eat and right next to me is a table with screaming kids. Same with going to the movies and the kids come along and cry the whole time..grrrrrrrrrrr

Yes, I think that there should such an option. There need not be a seperate restaurant as such, what can be done is, in any given restaurant, there should be a secluded place which can be sound proof with a different atmosphere and thus people who just want to be on their own should be able to use that space and enjoy themselves without kids, pets etc.

You are so right!! There are time I choose to not go out to a restaurant because maybe I'm tired and, even though I don't feel like cooking, I hate even more the thought of sitting captive in a chair waiting for my meal to arrive at the table when I family of five sits at the adjacent table and the kids are as tired as i am, but they are screaming and wriggling and pounding the table with their fists or kicking it from underneath with their feet. And to make this all worse, the restaurants seem to cater to thse people, with many of them offering free or greatly reduced prices for kids! Oh.....sorry for ranting, but that's my opinion.

Well, your question is "should" there be. I don't care, if someone wants to open a restuarant that doesn't allow children, that's fine, but that's not much of a public relations billing to start a new business with. Kids don't bother me personally, I think their interesting to watch, but there are plenty of restuarants out there, many where the little crumbmunchers would be very unlikely to be at.

I actually AM a mother of a three and a half year old, and I think "adults only" restaurants would be fine. I would get a sitter and go to them myself. I think it is rude to take a small child to an expensive restaurant, and I do not do this. If I have no sitter, I do not feel it is appropriate to punish other people for that by taking my child to an expensive meal.

However, if there are crayons and coloring pages provided, kids are CLEARLY welcome, and making a choice to go there means making a choice to potentially deal with loud kids. If my kid gets loud, I admonish or remove her if necessary, but I won't hesitate to visit the restaurant. But I do get annoyed when people think their screaming baby is "cute". It's NOT. lol

ABSOLUTELY !!! I couldn't agree more !!

For some reason, people with small children have no clue OR perhaps don't care in the least that others are being bothered with their little brats interrupting everyone else's evening !

People like this truly have no respect for others and think to highly of themselves. Then down the line they wonder why they don't have many friends or people make excuses NOT to spend time with them.

Thankfully there are getting to be more and more resorts now that cater to those who want ADULTS only.

Happy 2007
