I think you two should get married. Surprise that he hasn't asked you to marry him already and do it the right way rather than "shacking up". Being married is a commitment with one another. Guess you two aren't ready for any kind of commitment?
Doesn't make sense how people say they live together, when in reality, it is just "shacking up".

I'm with SSC on this one. That would be a social faux pas if ever there was one. But, what you can do is throw an " Open House" party. All that means is you want your friends and family to see and know where you are now living. Set out a cheese ball or two. Some people might bring gifts, but because you are not married that should not be expected. If you need kitchen stuff, check newspapers for estate sales. You'll find pots, pans, mixers, cutlery and all sorts of stuff.... and most of it for only a couple of dollars. That will help you until you get married and receive wedding gifts.

A house warming would be fine. You can have another when or if you get married. There are lots of places to find good things for the home. Good will . You get things you need and help the disabled also. Good luck.

Yes, a house warming party is a great idea, especially since you two will have a long engagement. So they don't have to fork out a house warming gift and then a wedding gift.

yes if you buy a home you can still do a house warming party. you can ask for the things you need and just make sure you put it in a registry somewhere so that you dont end up with a lot of one thing and nothing of something else...

You have got to be kidding me? Please, please, please don't tell me you are looking for an excuse to go and REGISTER somewhere for stuff. I definitely would not have the poor taste to register for anything. That is just plain tacky.
However, you can have a "come over and see our new house!" party to celebrate (notice, I did not say "housewarming"). What this means is that you send out invitations to people inviting them to come see your new house (don't even say "housewarming"). Then you go to the grocery store, you buy plenty of food to feed the people you have invited and YOU (yes, you) HOST the party. IF, and I mean IF, they show up with gifts, you try your very best to ACT suprised as you say, "Oh, you shouldn't have! That was so sweet of you! THANK YOU!"
A housewarming part is just like a bridal shower or a baby shower. Someone has to OFFER to throw it for you--you don't throw it for yourself!
Practice. You are going to need it.
However, an even better idea is to learn to make do with what you have, save up to buy what you need and don't worry about the rest.

Sure, why not. It makes no difference if your married or not. A new house is a new house right? Make suggestions to your friends abou what you need. Have fun.
