Alright. so my Dad threw out some rotten balogna and my dog got into it and ate it. I was not home but my mom was so scared and thought she was dying because as our dog was coming towards the house to come inside after using the bathroom, she was walking sideways and then she fell down and was convulsing and even convulsed her way under the car and seh could not get up. Then, she came inside and was still walking sideways, banging into things and fell down aned convulsed some more. So, my dad rushed home and when he came, she threw up and then shook a bit more. Then, she was perfectly fine and still is today. We can't take her to the vet because it is New Years and everything is closed, plus, she seems fine. We will take her , but in the meantime..does anyone know why this happened? My dad thinks it was the reaction her body had to the rotten food. We also heard that nitrate is really bad for dogs...and balogna has that. Oh and she is a 5 year old Australian Shephard

It may have been a bad food reaction, but it could be more serious. If she seems fine now, just make an appointment at your vet's as soon as they open tomorrow. If she has another seizure, you need to find someone open for emergencies to get her treated ASAP! Dogs can die from untreated seizures because their body temp can go sky high!

Anytime your dog has a convulsion you need to call the vet asap. She could be having seizures. It doesn't seem like spoiled meat would cause this, its seems like something more serious. There has got to be an emergency clinic open today. Or most vets have an emergency number which pages the doctor at home. You may have to pay more money for the visit but its worth it if it saves your dogs life.

she could have had a seizure which is what it sounds like. It is probably unlikely that the garbage had anything to do with it. I would most definitely take your dog to the vet ASAP. There is medication that your vet can prescribe called phenobarbitol to aid with the control of seizures.

I had a dog do that once and it was she chewed up some bark and a sharp piece got lodged in her intestine. I pasted after a bit and she was fine

Your Dad is probably right but your dog might also have epilepsy. My daughter's poodle has epilepsy and has seizures every now and then.

It was probably food poisoning. I would immediately, no ifs ands or buts, take her to the vet.
