I need to apply for a US Visa to go on holiday as I can't utilise the Visa-Waiver program as I have a minor conviction. I was wondering what the process of applying for it is? The embassy in London seem INCREDIBLY strict, with about 100 things they'll decline the application for (i.e. if you have a blister on your finger as then they can't take prints).
I understand I need to fill out a non-immigrant form, pay the fee and book an appointment to visit the embassy, but in what order? Do I mail in the form? Also as I have a conviction, what other things do I need? I think I need something showing the court records of the conviction and to fill out other forms. There's absolutely no decent help on their site, and only a £1.20 a minute phone line to help me out!

Something extra-how long will the visa last if I get it? If it only lasts 3 months or 12 months, do I need to get a new visa EVERY time I want to go to the USA? I can't actually see it being worth the bother to get one every single trip!

There is a lot of information on the web site, but you're right - if you don't already know how to do it, it is extremely confusing and intimidating.
Here is the short version:
First make the appointment and pay the application fee. You must do both things together by calling 09042-450100 and having a credit or debit card handy. If you succeed in making the appointment, you will receive a confirmation by email. Then fill out the form on line at https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp?lang=1 and print out all three pages. Bring that application and the appointment confirmation to the appointment. Also, since you have your criminal conviction, bring with you all the court documents you have, especially those showing the final decision in your case.
Good luck!!!

i applied for a visa to go to the U.Two years ago and had to go on to the American embassy web site to down load the visa application form fill it in and then make an appointment with the embassy in Belfast. when you get there (make sure you leave plenty of time and are not late) you go into a small office to begin with their you are asked to leave you phone and any metallic objects (i,e belt ,lighter)then they ask you for you name you then go through a metal detector to make sure you have not forgoten anything. then make you way to the visa office( be prepared to wait , i had to wait for over an hour).then you name will be called where by you get asked a lot of questions like why do want to go to the America ,how long are you going for, who is paying for it and what are you going to do when you get there.they will do one of three things: a) give you a twelve month visa,b) give you a three month visa,c) refuse you access, and they will tell you the reason of there refusal.don't let it put you of try and see. word of warning though they are very ignorant. good luck and i hope this helps you in your quest. PS. you will need to take you valid passport, proof of your income if your working or signing on book, recent bank statements, your visa application and the money for it, not forgetting a passport picture.take any court records of the conviction with you because they want to know everything.

It means your passport has a visa vignette attached on one of its pages, if that makes sense.

you might want to carefully watch the beginning of Scarface with Al Pacino, cause Tony montana was pretty successfull at immigrating with a crimminal record. Just tell them you are anti communist.

There is none. Convicted criminals are not allowed a US visa under any circumstances.
Try Canada.
