She has recently found out that she has spots on her retina, but the doctor says it is congential and wouldn't effect our unborn child...the Dr. is also having a titer check to she if she has antibodies for the protozoa, but if she has antibodies, why would it be able to effect her vision? Very concerned for my wife and unborn child!

As the spots are congenital, she probably had the infection before birth, catching it from her mother. In that case, the infection may have left some permanent stigmata, but she cannot pass it to her unborn child. Get an antibody titre done. If the antibodies raised are IgG, this shows a previous infection, which cannot be transmitted now. If the antibodies are IgM, this shows a recent infection, which can be passed on.

Uveitis is inflammation of the uveal tract—the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. Most cases are idiopathic, but identifiable causes include various infections and systemic diseases, often autoimmune. Symptoms include decreased vision, pain, redness, photophobia, and floaters. Diagnosis is clinical, supplemented with laboratory and ancillary testing. Treatment depends on cause but typically includes topical or systemic corticosteroids with cycloplegic-mydriatic drugs and/or noncorticosteroid immunosuppressants. Infectious causes require antimicrobial therapy.
Toxoplasmosis is infection with Toxoplasma gondii. Symptoms range from none, to benign lymphadenopathy, a mononucleosis-like illness, or life-threatening CNS disease in immunocompromised people. Retinochoroiditis, seizures, and mental retardation occur in congenital infection. Diagnosis is by serologic tests, histology, or PCR. Treatment is most often with pyrimethamine plus sulfadiazine or clindamycin. Corticosteroids are administered concurrently for retinochoroiditis.
Please see the web pages for more details on Toxoplasmosis.
