I've heard that if a dog drinks from a toilet recently used by someone with AIDS and then licks you you can get the virus. If its true I'm not going to let the lady with AIDS next door visit me any more unless she uses her own bathroom first.

Get real! Talk about the same chances as winning the lottery! FIrst of all, if this is truly your concern, you should be speaking with your physician and learning how fragile the AIDS virus (HIV) really is. Secondly, just make sure the toilet seat is always DOWN so your dog can't get into it whether the lady next door with AIDS has used it or you have used it. That is totally gross no matter what way you picture it. In my house the toilet seat covers are always down due to the dogs and the cats. Be a responsible pet owner and not a prejudiced neighbor!

Neither dogs nor cats carry AIDS. Cats have a virus that is similar to HIV but it is only spread from one cat to another and it is referred to as FIV. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS in some people. It isn't spread by toilets or by a dog drinking from the toilet and then licking you.
Your dog could not get HIV from a human. You can't get HIV from a toilet seat. I have had a room mate with full blown AIDS and I worked with people with AIDS on a daily basis. I am SURE that you can't get AIDS like you described.

I had asked my vet the same question several years ago because I deal with dogs that would apprehend people and some of these people might have the AIDS virus. I was told by my vet that dogs cannot be carriers of the virus, but cats can.

No, dogs can't carry the AIDS virus. The virus can't survive outside the body for any length of time really, so you're perfectly safe. Cats can't carry the virus either. The AIDS virus is the Human Immunodefficiency Virus (sp?) also known as HIV. The word "Human" says it all. Cats can have FIV (F = feline) but we can't get that and they can't get ours.

No you definatly can NOT get AIDS that way! In less you are having sex with the lady next door or she some how drops a gallon of her blood into a gaping wound I wouldn't be worried about it. Although AIDS is scary you don't need to worry about catching it this way, I would definatly suggest some research on your part! Education is your friend!

No a dog can't be a carrier of the AIDS virus.

The person who told you that crap needs to get a proper education before spreading this type of stuff around.

This is an ignorant question littered with blind stupidity. Go to school, learn a thing or two.
