My wife and I's dog is a little one year old Papillon. We took him to get groomed for the first time last week. He weighs about 10lbs and is not very big. The grooming only took a little while. We have never gone grooming before with any of our other dogs. Should we tip her? If so, what percentage of the total cost should it be?

The general rule of tipping: If someone provides a service, they get a tip. I tip my groomer even though all she does is clip the dog's nails (in about 5 minutes). The cost is $8, I tip her $2. The standard tipping amount is 15%, but since I worked as a waiter and know that alot of people don't tip that much, or at all, I usually do 20%.

Yes, even a minor tip would be nice, if you are happy with the job she did. I would say a dollar or two is fine for this. If you have a dog that is problematic for grooming (tempermental, or a difficult grooming task) you might want to tip more, but if the groomer had an easy time, you should still tip. Maybe it went so quickly becuase of how good she was witht he dog, as much as it had to do with the dog and ease of the task.

IF you are going to continue getting the dog groomed (and you should), if the job was well done, the dog and you were treated well, and the service was exceptional... they by all means, tip her. Tipping will also ensure that if in the future you need an "emergency grooming" you would more likely be accomodated!

My dogs knows my sons name. I ask her to find Oskar and she runs to him. It's probably because he's only a toddler and I'm constantly saying his name, and were at home most of the day so she's hearing me call his name a lot :)

Just like anyone else who is performing a service for you (hair stylist, waitress, etc...) a pet stylist should be tipped according to their work. We especially appreciate it if a dog is difficult.

i usually tip my groomer, especially if they work at a chain store or vet clinic. i would tip them the same as you tip your hairdresser. a couple of bucks should be sufficient.

well, if you are very pleased with the groomers work, and would be happy in recomending her to others, then tip her what you feel is fair.

I think you're supposed to. Probably the standard 15%.
