I had a cat who would eat the bread crumbs I threw out for the birds but of course she would never eat the bread inside the house. Your kitty knows that this is food for another animal and kitty won't have any of that. I also had another cat who used to jump the fence and go next door to eat the German Shepard's food when the dog was inside on the other side of the sliding glass doors.LOL. I thought it was funny but Brutus's (dog's) mommy didn't think it was funny.Candy Cane (cat) would never have eaten dog food (I'm sure) if I gave it to her. She just wanted it because it belonged to the dog.

Some cats will eat all kinds of things.
If your cat (or a dog) consumes a large amount it can become impacted and a serious medical problem. If it just occasionally eats a little bit I wouldn't worry.

It's not that great. We have a parrot who spends most of her time in a large cage, and we feed her human foods, in additoin to her bird food. The kittens try to pull our anything that falls on the bottom of her cage, which is pretty gross. They don't really touch what spills out of the bird feeders outside though. Still they are fascinated with wild birds. I try to keep them in at night.

is the bird food clumps of seeds kept together with some kind of fat?

if that is the case, of course kitty will eat it. it doesn't harm the kitty, but maybe kitty is telling you that he neds more fats in his diet--provide him with wet food every day or every other day to supplement his dry food. sounds like you allow your kitty outdoors--in urban and suburban areas that is a bad idea for many reasons that lead to kitty death.--cars--people use poison on kitties, and predatory animals--dogs, coyotes, etc--all kill kitties. so do other cats.

if you love your kitty then kitty shold be indoors and "fixed"
in rural areas, kitties are work animals--they need to be odoors to keep things under control--rats and mice and other scaenging critters are kept to a minimum when there are kitties around.
those situations are getting rarer every day.
now kitties are pets. pets get killed by things outdoors.
please take good care of your kitty and enjoy kitty for a long time.

all cats have their quirks, mine eats dog food and destroys my Christmas tree. he also hates plastic bags??? if your cat doesn't get sick i wouldn't worry about it, just keep an eye on its poo and his behavior after he eats it. if it becomes lazy or quits pooping or has diarrhea then keep it away form it.
